Run a BOM Search in 3 Easy Steps

Running a BOM Search is simple from the myMectronic homepage: all you need is your BOM list.  Uploading this file returns accurate stock availability, as well as shortcuts to purchase parts or request quotes from distributors.

Step 1: Create your search file.

Step 2: Edit your search file. 

Uploading even a complex BOM list is easy with the myMectronic BOM Search.  Simply drag and drop your .txt, .csv, .xls, or .xlxs file into the search box.  Click the Upload button, and your file will open.  Users can edit the first three fields of their file from this screen, adjusting quantity or deleting unnecessary parts.  With the ability to edit from this screen, users can repeatedly employ the same BOM list to save time.

BOM vs. Bulk: Which is better?

At first glance, myMectronic’s BOM Search and Bulk Search tools may seem similar.  Though both tools facilitate searching multiple parts or components with a single query, understanding key differences between BOM and Bulk searches allows users to select the best tool for optimizing their search time.

Like a BOM search, Bulk Search offers users the convenience of searching multiple parts or components simultaneously.  Each search tool allows for searching up to 50 different parts, components, or part numbers.

Unlike a Bill of Materials Search, Bulk Search requires a manual entry for each search, one item per line.  Bulk Search cannot facilitate a file upload to speed up the process.

Results rendered from each search differ, too.

While BOM results are broken down by distributor in a single, convenient list, Bulk Search separates results into individual component lists.  

Additionally, results from a Bulk Search query may be less accurate than BOM search results.  While a BOM only delivers results from manufacturers that have updated their data within the last sixty days, the mechanism for a Bulk Search returns all options within our database.  If manufacturers fail to update their stock data, results may not reflect availability accurately.
